Donate to Bowra

  • ... Located within the catchment of the Warrego and Paroo rivers, Bowra is a classic piece of outback Australia. Stands of blue-green mulga, giant river red gums and tranquil billabongs provide refuge for a remarkable collection of our inland birds, mammals and reptiles. Please help protect Bowra and its threatened wildlife.... (Prof Tim Flannery)
  • Having visited Bowra a number of times I have always found it a wonderful haven for birds, a pleasant place to visit and it's relatively easy to get to. (Peter Crow, Birds Queensland)
  • I visited Bowra Station twice in the past 18 months and photographed over 60 species of birds. It is a magnificent place to observe a range of woodland and wetland birds. Birders are attracted to Bowra for the rare birds which occur there, but the huge numbers of common birds, such as Diamond Doves and Zebra Finches, are no less impressive. John Barkla, Bird Observation & Conservation Australia)
  • Having worked at Idalia National Park for 3 years, I thought it was the most ecologically important areas in western Queensland ever purchased for conservation.  But after taking my children, one and three, to Bowra, even after years of drought, I not only saw birds I had not seen before, but my children learnt the simple joy of nature. (Suzanne Nicholls, District Project Coordinator, South West NRM)
  • I have visited Bowra six times during the last nine years and consider it to be a wonderful haven for birds and other wildlife.  I have introduced many Australian and overseas visitors to the area.  I strongly support the acquisition by AWC and look forward to many more visits to this wonderful part of Australia and to assisting in the ongoing preservation of Bowra. Roy Sonnenburg (Brisbane)
  • Bowra is an outstanding area, beautiful, wild and filled with animal life. It, as well as its surrounds, must be protected forever as a haven for wildlife and people alike. Henry Coleman
  • I have been to Bowra Station for the past 2 years. A wonderful place, thanks to Julie and Ian who have taken such great pride in the nature of this station for so many years. Annie Carmichael
  • As a bird photographer and committee member of PENBOC the Mornington Peninsula branch of BOCA (Birds Observation and Conservation Australia), I found Bowra a gem amongst bird watching locations. Keith Hindley
  • We spent a week at bowra in June 2010 and we counted over 100 species, lovely spot. The only thing that bothered us was the sighting of five cats close to the homestead. We realise it has only just been purchased but please make it a priority to cull them. Congratulations to AWC on purchasing these important areas. Tim Pascoe

Friends of Bowra

Starting in early 2010, AWC will co-ordinate a Friends of Bowra group, with members helping in a variety of ways to support the conservation of Bowra. A volunteer program will be developed.

In the meantime, AWC is inviting people who are passionate about the conservation of Bowra to email a short message about the property to bowra.appeal@australianwildlife.org for us to display on this page.

If you wish to be included in the Friends of Bowra, submit your name and contact details to friendsofbowra@australianwildlife.org. You will receive email updates when the Friends group commences.
