Birds
Bowra is an important destination for birdwatchers from around Australia and the world. The significance of the property is featured in many articles including The Bird Observer (October 2008) and the UK publication Parrots.
More than 200 species of birds have been recorded on Bowra, which is a remarkable tally for a property of this size.
Iconic birds such as Hall's Babbler, Chestnut-breasted Quail-thrush, Bourke's Parrot and Chirruping Wedgebill are a feature of the property. Fourteen species of parrot and 18 diurnal raptor species further highlight the significance of Bowra. The Grey Falcon breeds here, and it is one of the few places in Australia where the Black Falcon is regularly sighted. Bowra is a stronghold for many other threatened and declining birds including Major Mitchell's Cockatoo, Painted Honeyeater, Brown Treecreeper, Squatter Pigeon, Crested Bellbird and Diamond Firetail. Around 50 species of waterbirds also occur, including the threatened Painted Snipe and a number of internationally protected migratory species.
